Default Fuel pump (only 5 months old) just stopped

Was driving my '97 1500 around yesterday on multiple errands - everything was fine. Went out this morning, 27 degrees, and started her up to warm up. 5 minutes later, truck ain't running. I have a half a tank of gas. Battery is strong. Fuse 9 is good and has 12v with ignition on. Relay is good and has 12v. Kinda stupified as I didn't buy a POS fuel pump, I believe it's OEM. Only been in truck about 5 months and maybe has 300 miles on it.

Any ideas? Is there a way to test if power is getting to the pump without dropping the tank to get at wiring connectors? With truck off, ignition on, I do NOT hear the pump. Seems like either the pump is dead or the wiring is somehow failing and 12v ain't making it back there. Sortof hard to believe either, but, it seems like that's all it can be.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Jay

You "believe its OEM" meaning, what? Where did you get the pump?
I replaced mine last year and used Delphi from Rockauto.

I have 7 vehicles in my driveway and take care of all of them; wife, kids, etc and this truck is my 2nd vehicle for hauling firewood, mulch, going to dump, etc. I usually get most of my parts from my mechanic who gets me stuff wholesale and he usually always gets OEM or other high quality parts. I spent weeks resurrecting this truck after it sat for 6 years. It needed a boatload of work, (new brake lines, rotors, calipers, pads, ball joints, wheel bearings, fuel lines, fuel pump, and a host of other things). I honestly can’t remember what kind of fuel pump I put in but I’m confident it was OEM or high quality - that’s what I meant.

How much did you pay for it? That is generally the best indicator of quality on fuel pumps.....

Don’t remember. My mechanic got back to me and thinks I got it from him. May be some warranty savings.

question still remains: what’s easiest way to test if in fact pump is the issue? I assume it’s to lower tank and test if connector is getting 12v at pump...?

If you are lucky.... (or can bribe someone with small hands....) you might be able to unplug it without moving anything.

The great thing about these pickups is you can get to the fuel pump plug from the drivers side wheel well. Look towards the front of the well between the frame n the bed. If you got a meter, you can plug it into the pump plug n see if ya got voltage at the pump. If ya do, then ya can unplug the pump n plug the meter is series with the pump harness to see if there's current flow when the ignition is on. That way you know fer sure!
