Since it's been cold my ram has had a Time or two it hasn't wanted to start..... It's really weird because I could let it set for awhile after trying to start it and it would start up just fine when I tryed it again later and work seemingly with no issues for weeks and then do it again..... I noticed this week it was kinda having some hard starts in the morning...... Well today I go out and it cranks and acts like it's going to start but never actually gets going...... I left it alone for awhile thinking maybe I flooded it or something went back out and tryed it again this time it started very rough for just a second or two and I floored the gas pedal it would almost get ideling but it was really really rough and then quit and just cranked and cranked again after that............. I can hear the fuel pump kicking on when I put the key in the on position....... I haven't tested the pressure yet........ I just thought I'd ask here and see if anyone else had any problems like this or could shoot me any advice as to where to start I know the thing needs a tune up I've been procrastinating on but I'd think that it would've at least started missing or something before it flat out didn't start if the plugs and wires were that bad...... Anyway any help is appreciated thanks in advance

Check fuel pressure first, make sure it's good.

On mine, in the COLD temps, the old cap/rotor were the cause of the no start..... Just not enough spark to fire the mixture.

Thanks for the reply I'm going to check fuel pressure tomorrow I did pull the coil wire off the coil and noticed it was rusty on the inside where the connection is honestly I hope it's not the fuel pump I'm not looking forward to dropping that big **** fuel tank

And you probably just filled up too.

Yeah, bad connections can give you all sorts of hassles. Might not hurt to pull the cap, and take a peek at the terminals as well. (inside, and outside..... )

The "ignition control module" under the cap can cause this, too, but when it went out on the '98 1500 (5.9) I service I got a code for it.

That's the weirds thing with mine I don't have any engine lights and it was running relatively smooth when it ran I do have a cheap code checker Im gonna plug in just in case to see if there is one

Ok so the damnest thing it was quite a bit warmer and dryer today I go out just for ****s and giggles and it starts right up like nothing is wrong ......could it just need a tune up? I've never had a vehicle be that cold natured it had literally cranked and done nothing for two days

It's possible. My van wouldn't start yesterday, simply because it was cold..... replace cap and rotor, and it fires right up.

this started happening a few days ago....truck super duper hard to start in mornings now...have a 2000 dodge 15000 v8 gas....wants to sputter when trying to start but once i get it started engine runs great rest of day even after sitting for several hrs....its just sitting overnight it just wont start...even tried starting fluid..no difference...smell gas big time...like its flooding itself out.....
