Its been a minute since I posted on here and figured it was a good time to ask a question here. I have noticed recently that my truck is cranking an abnormally long time before the engine starts. I replace the plugs annually so I know its not that. I also replaced the fuel pump and starter within the last 2 years, and the battery is almost new. I noticed a similar thread in which @Hey You replied to someone having this issue. He said that on his Ram this was caused by a bad cap and rotor. Im not sure if that could be a possible cause of this problem with my year of truck. I also wondered if it could be ignition timing ?

Several things to look at...1)does it take long cranks all the time, only certain times like hot or cold?, 2)what's your fuel pressure at the fuel rail?, 3) have you tested the spark at the plugs? Is it weak orange or strong blue? N yes, double check the cap n rotor.

 

Timing isn't adjustable on these trucks. What brand plugs are in there?? What type?

 

X2, If you have a aluminum insert cap toss it and get one with brass inserts. They will long out last the aluminum ones.

 

Im almost certain they are AC Delco, theres a longshot they are champs

 

I will have to pay closer attention, but it seems like I notice it more when the truck is cold. Havent tested pressure at the rail, like I mentioned I replaced the fuel pump pretty recently. I also have not checked the spark at the plugs. All very good ideas though, thank you ! I will report back when I get more data
