Default Gas Gauge Problems

Hello, I have a 97 Ram and I love the truck but I’ve got to get this gas gauge figured out.
I bought it that way and just went by mileage for awhile but it gets annoying.
I just put a new fuel pump assembly in it and that didn’t fix it...so I’m guessing it’s either wiring from the sending unit to the gauge or the gauge itself.
I’m trying to solve this issue myself to save me a $500-$600 shop charge...any help is appreciated!!

Did you index the pump to the tank?

What is the gas gauge doing? Or, not doing... as the case may be?

not sure what you mean there...haha. I’m not much of a mechanic so I had someone else put the new pump in...I did manage to take the cluster out and test the gauge by wiring it to the battery and it moved like it should...my neighbor has the opposite problem in that his gauge reads full all the time...I’m thinking it’s either the hot wire from the sending unit or the ground

See if you are getting power back to the gauge circuit of the sending unit.
