Default 2nd gen cab swap

Hey so I recently started fixing up my dads 1999 dodge ram 2500 4x4 quad cab diesel. I needed new doors front and small back and I need new front fenders as they are completely rusted out. Well I was able to pick up a 2001 dodge ram 1500 gas 4x4 for 900$ that is in almost perfect condition inside and out I was wonder it I can completely swap cabs and use the interior wiring or would I need to get new. My obd2 port is currently not working in the 99 and I am needing to know if I can use the 01 wiring with ii being a gas truck?

Fair few differences gas vs. diesel.... Likely gonna need the interior wiring and such as well.

It's *possible* that you would just need to swap the clusters..... but, you would have to compare diagrams to be sure. (and you can download them from here.)

Edit: Also, the trans governor pressure sensor changed in 00 as well, so, if you have an auto trans, need to use the 99 PCM, or, change the trans electronics.

okay thank you I have already replaced the one engine wiring harness that connects to the transmission as I just put a new tranny in and the wires were a mess. So I am mostly hoping to use the wiring under the dash for my radio and steering wheel.

edit- or are you meaning I would need to transfer my electrical from under the hood onto the new cab? Sorry I'm pretty new to this as my fiance is the one working on it but he was not completely sure on being able to switch as he has never done one.

If you have the underhood harness, and PCM from the diesel, that should do it. I don't know if there will be a bulb in the 'wait to start' lite in the newer cluster though, as it was a gas engine. So far as I know, the clusters are the same..... and they get their cue of what the gauges need to read, and what lights should be on, from the PCM..... So long as the wiring matches, it *should* work...... Might wanna swap the clusters in any event, so the mileage will be correct. Yer gonna have to taste and see.

Hey Kristin, just thought of an idea to help out. You probably could find a decent 12V 5.9, would be able to use the 01 wiring at that point. An 47RH/NV4500 from the 12V would be a sweet score. Might be easier than doing a wiring harness swap. The 12v has almost no electronics (fuel start solenoid) and same goes for the RH/NV4500 transmissions. Post pics of your build.
