Default Borgeson steering box

I put a new Borgeson box on my truck about 10 years ago, and it seems to have issues developing over the last year, and it seems to be getting worse. Everytime I turn the steering wheel just a little bit left or right, I feel and hear a “click” in the steering wheel. When I go under the truck and have someone turn the steering wheel slightly left or slightly right, I hear the same clicking noise right at the box. Is the box worn out? It’s a pretty substantial “click” that I can feel on the steering wheel too.

Put a socket extension against the box to verify the noise's source. Also, look at every component in the suspension and steering while someone turns the wheel back and forth for any play or movement to rule that out.

A common problem that causes a click is the steering column bushing, but RamMan have good advice

I just went outside and confirmed it’s the steering box. You can feel like click big time on the steering wheel, and even hear it in the cab. But laying under the truck and turning the input shaft by hand, I can make the clicking sound and feel the clicking too. And when I had a helper in the cab turning the wheel back & forth, the input shaft turns ALOT before the output shaft/pitman arm moves at all.

I am the original owner of this truck, 258k miles. I was never impressed with this Borgeson box, even when it was new. It had way too much power assist, as far as I’m concerned.

And I know I had to modify my OEM steering shaft a bit to mate it to the new box, in fact I still have half of the shaft in my shed.

Now, what are my options for a new box?

I don't know how you have too much power assist. I would love more. If you don't want another Borgeson, you can try Redhead or Blue Top or Napa. I haven't had luck with Redhead.
