I've found that the best way to have brighter headlights is to upgrade to the sport headlight housings (these housings have 4 headlight bulbs instead of the 2 used in standard housings) and run a headlight harness with relays that work with the sport headlights.

I converted my truck to sport style headlights so I could see better at night (4 headlight bulbs with sport headlights vs. 2 headlight bulbs for the stock headlights). To get the most out of the new headlights and not melt my headlight switch, I purchased a relay/fused style harness from these folks - https://ceautoelectricsupply.com/hea...ion-relay-kit/

I believe LMC truck may make a less pricey harness with relays, but not sure if it works properly when converting from non-sport headlights to sport headlights.

While pricey, the harness I'm using is very well made and was very easy to install. In addition, the headlights are now really bright and I can see much, much better while driving at night.

My ‘97 is a Sport model, and I only have one 9004 per side. Are you talking the newer trucks?

I believe the change was with the 98-1/2 year model.
Any built after the end of May 98 have the two bulb version... up to the end of May 98 was the single bulb version.

I too converted to the sport headlights, heavier duty harness, new housings. Huge difference, cheap, easy and legal.

Sport headlights here, 9007 led in the outter spots, Piaa 9004 in the inner spots. This works great in the winter as most led lights don't put out heat and snow/ice build up on
the housings. 9004 are wired sep from the rest of the light system.
