Unhappy 2001 ram 3.9 2wd reverse not working.

just got a 2001 ram with a 3.9 and is 2wd automatic. issue is when i put it in reverse i can feel it engage, but when i give it a bit of gas it feels like it slips out and acts like its in neutral.
sometimes when i shift into reverse it shakes hard like its trying to grab? all the drive gears work fine, it shifts good through all 4 gears smoothly but only reverse is having an issue.
i did some research and i will adjust the reverse band sometime this week when it stops raining. while i have the pan off is there anything else i should replace? i am putting a new filter gasket and a
pan with a drain on it. also what is the correct band adjustment procedure? 72 inch lbs tight and 4 full turns off? anyway thanks for reading this rant. any and all help is appreciated.
also i think it has the 42re transmission but does anyone know for sure? first ram.

You can grab the service manual for your truck from here. Specs for band adjustment should be in there.

Just fluid and filter, and bands (there are two) at this point. See if that solves your issues before spending any other money on it.
