Default Damn transmission

Any advice would be great I recently bought a 97 dodge 1500 5.2 when I got it it would crank up and run just fine but had no power to be able to drive I replaced the transmission power relay and it would drive my problem now is it won't go into drove and stays in 1st any ideas on what could be causing it

Moving this to 2nd Gen Ram section.

Unplug the 8 pin connector from the trans. It plugs straight down into the top of the valve body, drivers side, about halfway back. You will have NO automatic function, so, start in first, up/downshift as appropriate. If it works that way, then it's just an electronics problem. If it still acts strange, time for a rebuild.

Fluid at the correct level? Is is red or a brown color?
