Default 360 balance change.

Yes, I know the marketing wonks call it the 5.9, but I'm old and not metric. I have a 360 engine. Anyway, when did Ma Mopar change the balancing system on the 360? I've got a '96 and the engine is in decent shape but it hasn't had the best care over the years. I've found a 1995 engine that is a 360 for a decent price. Anybody with more recent training know if these swap or do I need to include something else. There's always been a difference between the 273/318 and 360 engines.

I have a '96 5.9 Magnum/360 and it has balance weight on the flexplate. The torque converter is neutrally balanced. I believe '95 is the same, but someone else will chime in if that's incorrect.

It changed between 95 and 96. The only difference was where the weights were, torque converter on the older models, flexplate on the newer models.

That's what I needed to know. If I get the engine and swap it in, I'll reuse the '96 flex plate. I've always preferred to use the flex plate for the transmission. I dropped an engine into a 1977 New Yorker, then pulled it back out and swapped the 9 inch plate for the 10 inch it was supposed to have.

I hate it when that happens.

I would much prefer to learn from OTHER PEOPLES mistakes, but, yeah, it doesn't always work out that way.

Will Rogers said there are three types of people. Those who can learn by reading a book, those who can learn by watching others, and those who have to pee on the electric fence themselves.

I knew there was a reason I like Will.
