Default Rear end problem

My buddys truck its a 01 ram 1500 2wd 5.9

he was driving behind me and his truck just belched out black smoke. He said his oil pressure dropped to zero. I looked under it. And its leaking from somewhere Idk what kind of lines are down there? If any of yall could help me with that. It just looks like some type of line busted and sprayed.

Are oil lines connected to the rear end?

No oil lines to the rear end. That looks like a brake line broke.

Looks like a shock blew out?!? No oil lines from the engine area back there. Could also be brake line or diff. Oil press going to "zero", maybe the engine just stalled out or the gas tank was punctured? So many variables without complete picture here. see if engine restarts n check n see if it's gat gas in the tank.

I'd locate the oil filter and make sure it's still there and has no holes. Black smoke, I believe, is from too much fuel which may or may not be related to this problem.

Wonder if the smoke was from oil burning off the muffler....

You may have a couple of problems. Looks like the pinion seal may have blown out cause all the gear oil to hit the fuel tank and muffler. 2nd check the engine oil and see how much is in the engine. And inspect the engine for leaks. Could either have a bad pressure switch or the oil pump.
