Default What is the difference in 231d transfer cases

I'm looking for a print out of some sort breaking down transfer case numbers and what they mean.
I Have a 01 ram 1500 sport 4x4 with a 5.2 in it. After blowing several holes in the transfer case and thinking about weather to fix it or scrap the truck. I came across somebody on Facebook marketplace selling a 231d transfer case Assuming that all 231 d transfer cases were created equal I bought it. When I went to install the new transfer case all the bolt holes lined up and the splines matched but for some reason the new transfer case won't slide all the way on to the transmission like the input shaft is to long?
My original transfer case tag reads 231d (next line) 5210 5022ab
The new transfer case tag reads 231d (next line) 5209 8502.
If nobody has a print out or diagram breaking down each transfer case so I can figure out the difference between them. Can someone tell me 1. What the difference is. 2. Can I swap the input shaft from my old case? Simple yes and no answers work for me I don't need a whole assay about it. Thanks

There should be a BOM number on it somewhere, but, I don't know of anyplace that will decode that for you.... So far as I know, there aren't any differences, aside from the changes from 97 to 98. (shift pattern changed, and VSS provision went away.) All internal parts should be swappable though.
