Default Can I ground Sensor Ground anywhere?

Hi guys, I am relocating my battery and would like to ground the Battery Temp Sensor near my relocation. Does the sensor ground have to be grounded within the harness or can it be grounded to battery or frame? Thanks in advance!

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: The reason the PCM does not rely on ground connections through the body/frame is that these connections tend to develop issues over time, mostly due to corrosion. Like a few other sensors the battery temp is determined by resistance, so any added resistance from aging throws off the reading. You have to extend one wire anyways so you might as well do two.

Thanks for the response. Do you know off hand how many points are grounded in the computer harness for 2nd gen (mine is 97). I see one obvious harness ground to the block but are there others along the original harness?

Grab the factory service manual for your truck from here. Wiring diagrams are section 8W.
