How to replace a rotted fuel tank crossmember?
#11
Yes, I had to change the front cross member on my '96 Ram 2500 4x4 standard cab truck/8 foot bed, which is directly under the back of the cab. That cross member is riveted in place. As an FYI, I changed the cross member while I had the bed off the truck frame, as I was replacing it with another bed due to rust. I cut the rivets out and found another cross member from a local donor truck (2000 or 2001) that was in perfect shape. I slid that new cross member in place and had a friend weld it in place. I've had no issues with that repair.

car-part.com is certainly one way to find that cross member. Not sure what part of the country you're in, but Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are also great places to find used parts or folks that are parting out parts off of their trucks.

Anyone have a way of verifying the p/n?
I found this on ebay, and it looks like exactly what I need but it's from a 2001 1500. The p/n is 52057525AB.

You can likely verify the cross member part number via the parts manuals that are available for download on this site. The cross member I replaced was at the front of the fuel tank under the truck's standard cab. Which cross member do you need to replace - the front one or the back one?
It's the back cross member. The local boneyard has the same year truck as mine only it's a 1500. Checking out the parts manual now.
