The 4x4 setup on your truck is vacuum operated. You can find plenty of information about the 4x4 setup in the service manual for your truck located here - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html

The dash issue you mentioned is a common problem with these trucks, as the plastic tends to deteriorate with exposure to UV and age. The best course of action is to replace it with a new one. LMC truck sells them - https://www.lmctruck.com/dodge.

any truck is going to break down at some point. anyone who argues this is a moron. some are more reliable than others, but at the end of the day they all keep guys like me employed. biggest thing is to check that the owner has had regular maintenance done.

Regular maintenance with bad parts in not much better than no main at all. Depending on what you are doing find the best parts out there to replace. Not every parts store has/stocks them and if they do it's $$$. If you are not sure post here or look threw the old posts. Most likely the issue has been brought up before on another thread.

I agree… poor parts will just have you changing them more frequently… consider the increased frequency of change and your time, the better quality parts suddenly aren’t that expensive.
And I would hazard to say an old “quality part” will still out perform a half used up “cheap part”.
