Yeah, probably going to have to come back out again. Is there any warranty on the trans? Might wanna chat with whomever you got it from before you try and fix anything.

Based on your description, I'm guessing that you took your transmission out of the truck yourself and had the transmission rebuilt by a transmission rebuilder, then you re-installed the transmission? If so, did you install the torque converter into the transmission before installing the transmission back into the truck or was the torque converter already installed in the transmission by the rebuilder?

Is it trans fluid or engine oil leaking? It can be hard to tell the difference by looking at it if it's dirty

Hey guys. Thanks for chatting. It’s trans oil from the front of the bell housing. Everything is clean and new It’s a new trans and the tc is a swap Becuase the one it came with had a stripped thread to the flex plate. It’s my second time installing The thing.

Did you lube the torque converter hub and seal before installing the torque converter? If not, that may have contributed to your transmission fluid leak in that area, if the transmission was rebuilt properly. In this area, many transmission shops will not perform bench transmission rebuilds, since the rebuilder can get blamed for something out of their control (ie: improper re-install of the transmission that could cause an issue).

Depending upon how bad the leak is, sounds like it may be time to speak with the rebuilder and pull out the transmission.

What happened to the old trans? Putting a used torque converter into a new rebuild is flushing money down the toilet. The first trans failed for a reason, all the crap that was in it, is now in your new trans.....

When you re-installed, did you check that the Torque Converter was fully seated and moving freely when you bolted it in?
When you mate up the bell housing from the engine, before the TC bolts are in, it should move completely freely with one finger.
If you did it differently, say tried installing the TC bolts before the bellhousing was seated and then seated the bell housing then what can happen is the TC gets pinched on the trans pump instead of being seated properly.

SO, do you remember when you installed the TC was the trans fully seated and the TC moved easily with one finger to line up the bolt holes?

and, sorry to say if its leaking from the front you'll have to remove it again. I removed mine three times with my first (second and third) rebuild.

Properly installed, the TC should set back from the bell housing almost 1 inch. ( or 3/4 inch to bolt pad on TC ) The TC can be a pain to get to seat on the pump so be patient, rotate and lift in all directions and it will eventually slide into place. Then make damn sure it doesn't slide out of position as you move the transmission up and mate it to the engine. Some instructions say use a c clamp on the bell housing to prevent the TC from sliding.

Please let us know if yours moved freely or was stiff when you installed it.

Like I said everything is new I wouldn’t waste my time like that. I could rotate the thing pretty easily. The flex plate was the stubborn to turn part about it. Which you have to do to reach the upper half.
it sounds like I didn’t seat the torque converter right or the seal is bad. It’s too bad you can’t test it before you hook everything up and drive that would save me a few weeks of slave work haha.
apretiate the help. Looks like she’s coming apart again.

if anyone has advice on how to diagnose the seal or replace it I really apretiate it.
