Default Magnum 5.9l Distributor Placement

So I am a bit confused on where the distributor should be pointing. I have no messed with the placement of the rotor but not thinking I did move the base of the distributor around. I currently have the engine at top dead center on cyl 1. The rotor is facing cyl. 8. I haven't messed with that so that's what the factory had it at. My question is where should the distributor be in relation to the rotor? Should the cyl 1 mark on the distributor align with the tip of the rotor? Here is a picture.

With #1 in firing position, (top dead center, both valves fully closed) the rotor points at the mark on the distributor.

The issue is the that I'm an idiot and moved the base of the distributor so it's all messed up. So now do I just move the mark on the distributor so that it lines up with the rotor?

That would likely work.

Now you say you moved base, are you referring to a minor twist of distributor or did the gears un mesh? If they didn’t unmesh then you should be fine, as long as engine is at #1 TDC and the rotor point to the mark on sensor plate. The clamp bolt should make it pretty much stationary, I had to pull my distributor a couple weeks about because both cap bolts broke, all I did was ensure tdc/ mark on plate, the clamp bolt prevented any twist movement, so I’m led to believe your bolt may not be on correct? The clamp portion on mine looked like a C and there’s a slot on distributor that that fits into in turn locking distributor into stationary position

Well I've got it now. But some everything is getting taken apart so I can rebuild it I'll have to do it again. Just wanted to make sure I had the right idea on what was required for it to be correct. Pretty sure I got it
