Default Compatible transmissions

I have a 2000 2nd gen 1500 with the 5.9 magnum and the auto trans is going and I want to put a more reliable trans in it but dont know where to start or what would bolt on or just need an adaptor plate and wanted some help or suggestions on what to do. I want to stick with an auto trans so that is also a factor.

Since the 46RE transmission in your truck is computer controlled, the easiest choice is to rebuild and beef up/upgrade what you have. You can install a MegaViper 46RE transmission that has all of these upgrades - https://transmissioncenter.net/shop/...-viper-series/

I was able to find a local transmission rebuilder to rebuild/upgrade my 46RE transmission and I've been very happy with the finished product.

Do you think changing to something else isn't going to be expensive?

Trouble is, there really isn't anything better out there that will bolt up, and work with your existing computer. Just doing some simple upgrades to your trans, will ensure it's the last rebuild you need. Better clutches/steels, valve body mods so you can check fluid in park, etc.

Buy a rebuild kit like the rest of us and rebuild it yourself. Here a helpful video.

What's the budget for this project? My guess 1500-2500 unless you rebuild it yourself.

I have to agree 💯 with this. I rebuilt mine having 0 experience with transmissions, using this series. It's a little dry but very detail oriented. I went through like 4 junk yard donors before I decided to finally rebuild myself. Trucks been running solid since then. And it was roughly 1000 ish.
