Default OBD1 converted to OBD2

I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 318 automatic. Im currently swapping a 360 magnum into the truck and building the transmission. I would like to get the truck tuned or even just put a little programmer on it but it is a OBD1 and they dont support that. So what would i have to go through to change it to a OBD2 ECU? Is it simple or complicated? Does all the wiring have to change to a newer model truck?

Under hood harness, PCM, and dash harness from a 96 or 97 truck, and you are down the road. Of course, you will also need a 46RE transmission to go with that.... But, since you are building one anyway, just build the RE trans.

96 and up won't have EGR though, so, you can dump the EGR valve, put a block off plate on the manifold, and plug the hole in the passenger side exhaust manifold. Or, use a 96 and up manifold....

imma scrap the 4th gen dash conversion. You replied on that post as well. Just gonna make go get everything redone in leather and suede. But anyways. I already have done away with the egr, its gone. Will the 96-97 harness hook straight up to everything in a 95? or will i have to modify the hardness

Get the dash harness as well, and it should be a direct swap. I think the only real difference on the inside is the OBDII diagnostic port.

Worst case, there are service manuals for both year trucks in the FAQ/DIY section, though I think you are replacing pretty much ALL the wiring in the truck in any event.

In 98, a LOT of stuff changed, if you wanted to go with anything newer than 97, you would also need the instrument cluster..... and there will be a selection of things the PCM will be looking for, your truck just won't have. 96 or 97 is the easiest, as very little changed.
