I have a 2001 with the 5.2L in it. Engine runs ok still with no lights on the dash yet, but oil pressure is getting lower as the bearings are wearing. I have a spare engine from a 98 that came with the truck and I'm wondering if I can swap all the sensors over from the 2001 and install the 98 in directly without any other modifications? I'm also curious if I decide to do a rebuild ever if the engine blocks and core components are interchangeable between the two engines?

 

Yes, you can interchange the block, heads and exhaust manifolds between the '98 and '01 years without issues. You will likely need to use the intake from the '01 motor to ensure it has all of the sensors you need in the correct locations.

 

In your case, there might be some minor differences in the intake (on the inside....) and some sensors, aside from that, same motor. (so long as they are both the same size.) Everything mechanical is pretty much interchangeable.

 

Check the casting # to make sure it's 5.2. 53006714 or 53006657 for the 5.2, 5302006 for the 360.

 

Thanks guys, so it sounds like I can just install in the 98 and swap over the sensors and intake from the 01? Anything else that might be a little different?

As long as both motors are 5.2 engines, that should be it. Keep in mind that the 5.9 would also bolt right up in the same spot and provide more power.

 

Drivers side of the block if it's 360 there will be a "360"after the casting #.
