Default ABS and Brake Light on

I have a 1995 dodge ram 1500 318 4x4 automatic. The ABS and brake light have been on for two years now. Ive never really cared to look into it but now that i am building the truck and really modifiying i figured i should fix it. I cant figure out why they are on or what is causing it. Its OBD1 so i cant scan codes so im clueless

Get the FSM from here: Service Manuals , it explains how to get the error codes from the ABS module. The mentioned diag connector is somewhere under the dash between the steering column and the e-brake, AFAIK. It only has a single wire that needs to be connected to ground.

Do the key dance……

turn key to on (not start) off on off on and then the check engine light will flash.

Pay attention….if it goes blink blink, short pause, blink blink blink, that’s code 23 for example….look it up on google and you’ll have your codes

That will give engine codes, but, not ABS codes.

Is your truck RWAL? Or 4WAL?

Thanks for sharing this information. Is this procedure the same for all 2nd gen trucks to access the RWAL ABS codes?

Need to know WHY the lights are on. Once you know that, the fix should be fairly obvious. Reading the codes is the fun part......
