Default 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen Front Brakes

So I've been reading where is you have a 2000+ 2nd gen you can swap in 3rd gen front brake parts. I have a 1500. Everything I've seen had been from 2500/3500s. Can I do this swap in my 1500? I'd like to if possible because I have 3rd gen brakes in the rear.

Easy way to check is go to a store and compare your 2000 calipers with 2003 calipers (avoid 2002 for confusion). If they match the holes, they should work. I did the 2500 swap for 99 and down.

did the 2500 swap make a big difference? Also, does the 2500 swap work for a 2000? I know the 3rd gen swap is popular among the heavy duty truck just don't know if I can do it to a 1500. I'd like to upgrade my front brakes if possible. Just don't know which route I can take.

Doesn't the 2000 already have the bigger rotors, and dual piston calipers on the front?

I know it has the dual piston calipers but I'm not sure about the rotors. Braking is fine but I like to upgrade when I am in there. If I can fit larger brakes, I'd prefer to. Either way braking is fine

I had just thought that the third gens had larger rotors and pads, which I would assume would allow for better braking. I know it's popular amongst 2500/ 3500 owners. Just don't know if it works for 1500

Well, apparently, the 3rd gen fellers have larger diameter rotors, but narrower...... I suspect you would have to change a selection of parts to make it work, and if you have 4wd, it simply won't work...... Third gen 1500's are IFS, so, way too many differences there. Now, if you are 4x4, it might just work....

well with the number of rotted out 3rd gens around my area I could probably scrap together some parts and see if I could get it to work. I might do that. Do the 3rd gen heavy duties have IFS?

No, they are solid axle front ends.
