Default No 1st gear

No 1st gear and nothing happens when I click the over drive off button on my 1999 Ram 1500 5.2l I just looked under the car and notice the red and orange wire to my 8pin connector we’re broken in half would this cause the no 1st gear and overdrive issue?

You can try removing the 8 pin connector, then test drive the truck to see if you can manually shift the gears, 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd. I would think a broken wire at the 8 pin connector would cause some sort of shifting issue. Also, check the level of your transmission fluid in neutral. It takes ATF+4 fluid. Low fluid will certainly cause a no shift/sluggish shift issue.

So the weird part is with the broken connector it only has 2nd and 3rd gears and when I try to turn over drive off nothing happens. This is also the same when I completely disconnect the connector. Also is it still automatically shifts in D with the connector unplugged. The other weird part is the other day I randomly tried to put it into first manually and it just worked smoothly no clunking did it every time then when I shut the car off and turned it back on it wouldn’t do it again manually
