I was wondering if you replaced the gasket material that goes around the ends of the heater core? There is none in this pic. Doubt that's the issue here but it will cause air to bypass the core and go around it. If i recall it's on the top/bottom and the sides.

You mean drill a hole in the t stat itself? No it doesn't have that and no I don't have this jiggler valve you speak of. And no sir It did come with any gasket I didn't bother trying to track down some for it. I can't see that being a big reason why the heat isn't great. Why do you think jacking the truck up and burping the air is a waste of time ?

You can easily tell if air is bypassing core by removing glove box and putting your hand up in there above core with fan on high.

We definitely have leaks around the '98 we did because that foam "weather stripping" is a PITA. You're still getting the heat into the cab, although it is poorly directed, inefficient and mostly behind the dash

Just an update guys. Warmer Temps here now about 30 degrees warmer lol. Tried purging the air a few times in the truck but with the heater core and warmer Temps outside I'm getting heat ! Good heat to. I honestly think that this truck doesn't like -30 Temps and I don't blame it. It's to bad but I think I just have to accept it won't warm up as good as my 2017 ford work truck.

Yes drill a hole like in post #14 and lifting up the front does nothing since the air is above the t stat and it cant escape through the lower hose. Lifting it will expel some trapped below the stat but the hole allows the air to escape from below and above the t stat. If you didn't put weatherstripping around the core cold air will just go around the core instead of heating it going through it.

My truck barely has adequate heat, even when it is above freezing..... We went to the Vet one day, it was -12 according to my overhead console. By the time we got there, (about 25 miles) the truck was just getting livable..... I would love to do something about it, just not sure what...... And I need help to do it. (health reasons.) And a warm place to work. Since the wifes Van needs a bunch of front end work, and I need to replace the headers on my truck, I think scoring a torpedo heater from lowes is gonna be on the agenda..... Hopefully, the wife will help me.

If you never had your hvac unit out of the truck it may be loaded up with dead leaves and debris. The screen over the cowl vent doesn't do squat and lets in everything. I was surprised when i took mine apart. Sounds like your heater core may need to be replaced. I have a 200K turbo heater and still don't want to work out in the garage. Tools stick to your hand they are so cold!

I think these trucks just don't like the cold. I'm happy with it now. For now. Lol
