Hey guys, I致e got a 2002 Dodge Ram 2400 4x4 5.9 with the nv4500 5 speed. My clutch is toast, and 3rd gear grind going in, leading me to believe the synchros are shot. I figure if I知 going to be putting a new clutch in, I might as well put a new transmission in while I知 at it. I pull trailers occasionally, but not usually super heavy. The truck has BHAF filter, stock turbo, 75hp injectors, and a smarty tuner. I知 considering putting a bigger turbo in at some point, but nothing crazy. I知 wondering if anyone can point me in what direction to go with my new parts. I知 leaning towards a south bend clutch, but as for the transmission I知 not sure where to go. I don稚 want to break the bank, but I also want to build this to last me a long time. Any input is appreciated!
I've never opened up an NV4500 but manuals typically ain't that difficult to rebuild if you purchased a quality kit and DIY
I've also stumbled upon threads online about an NV5600 swap, but just finding a used NV5600 affordably is borderline laughable these days (check car-part.com for giggles, but be sitting down when you do)
Beyond that, no further help from the peanut gallery here....
Would a six speed out of one of the newer trucks work??
You can use any transmission (even auto) if there is a controller for it. The magnum shares the same bolt pattern with the Hemi and the Cummins bolt pattern hasn't changed.
