Since it seems hopeless to start replacing solenoids and parts in the transmission when I have a wining converter I have now sourced a used 46RE from a '98 Durango (5.2L) with a converter. This should be a direct match, right? (mine is a '99).

The workshop will tare everything down, we'll inspect the transfer case (especially the overdrive housing and direct cluch that we worked on) to make sure nothing seems to have gone wrong there. If everything checks out we will proceed to swap the transmission and converter. I will then take on the challenge of repairing my original 46RE myself. If nothing else it will be a learning experience.

The numbers on my transmission are P52119821AA. I have asked the seller for the numbers on the durango trans.

That's great. I will probably pick it up in the weekend and get started next week. I'll keep you guys updated through the process..

Also, just because I'm curious, what info can I get from my currect trans ID? (P52119821AA) And should I check for something particular when I get the donor trans ID? I really want to make sure this is a direct fit..

The Durango trans *might* have a different stall speed converter, but, I am not sure on that. Aside from that, I doubt there are any differences at all. The 46RE was used in just about everything......
