Transmission is a pain
My transmission overheated recently (first the O/D off light then Trans High temp light). I've removed the coolant line valve so I think the overheating issue is taken care of but now the engine feels like it's taking off in 2nd and occasionally won't shift to the next gear and revs quite high. If put it in neutral briefly then back into drive and it changes to the correct gear. It is also sometimes, usually when warm, revving quite high when going at say 40+mph. I'm not sure if it's going into neutral or changing down a gear. I can force the car to start in first with the gear lever.
The O/D off light occasionally comes on and the engine code p 1740 is back.
I know what I have described is not uncommon for these cars but my questions are :
Can overheating have caused this damage? (it was fine before overheating)
As the problem is slightly intermittent and feels like a sticking solenoid, is there any way to do anything to unstick the solenoid without dropping the trans pan?
The reason I ask is that this car is a bit of a money pit and I want to be pretty sure that replacing the solenoids and fluid will solve the problem.
Thanks for any advice!

If it overhead it probably damaged the electronics, in particular the governor pressure solenoid and transducer….that code also leads to the same parts….check your fluid to see if it’s burnt smelling/dark
What caused the overheating to happen? Where you towing or was the valve stuck? As said check the fluid and see if the level is correct and if it's brown/burnt.

If you have this code the solenoid is on it's way out.
