Default "How to" smoke test for 5.9L?

Posted about this previously on another thread...
High idle, P0505 code but it's not the IAC...
Audible hissing sound from the area of the intake manifold- which stops with substantial acceleration and resumes when I let off the pedal. Unlike previous vacuum line problems -manifested at the vents when accelerating- no issues with that.
I had just pulled, thoroughly cleaned and re-installed the throttle body so I know it's not leaking there.

I'm going to make one of the DIY smoke generators (soldering iron, mineral oil in a jar or paint can etc).
From what I've seen, the brake booster vaccum line off the intake manifold is a good place to "plug in"?
I'm assuming I need to somehow seal the throttle body butterfly after removing the air cleaner- how best to do that?

That code is indeed for the IAC. The PCM doesn't think it can control it properly. Turn the ignition on, and check for voltage at the IAC connector. You should see 12 volts on two of the wires.

Already done, sir- followed all the advice on the previous thread.
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...t-reset-2.html

The loud hissing sound appears to be coming from the area of the throttle body/IAC- but I've pulled it, checked the o-ring, re-installed. Swapped out the IAC again- no change in "symptoms".
Guess I'll pull the throttle body again this weekend and inspect. Definitely air being sucked in somewhere, it's highly audbile even in the cab, and stops on acceleration.

That's why we like to keep problems to one thread.

I am not surprised you hear noise from the throttle body. The IAC opening will create that hissing noise. The more air that flows past the IAC, the louder it gets. I didn't see your results from the voltage test on the IAC connector though. I am going to guess that you aren't getting voltage on one side of that circuit, or, one of the wires is just bad.... Hence, the P0505.
