Default Swapping obdI ECUs between same years, Different models

I have a 95 B3500 van and want to swap the current problematic ecu with one from a 95 ram pickup with the same engine and transmission. Will it work?

From another forum:
I can honestly say that I have taken a van PCM (360) and put it in my Pick-up (318) without any problems. I did it with my Ramcharger also.

I worked in scrap yards for years and used to interchange them all the time.

So...In MY experience I've never had a problem.
There's a good chance it works at least for the engine and transmission. Things like cruise control and emissions stuff might not work.

YES, THE ECU IS INTERCHANGEABLE!!!
The ECU came today and I installed it with no problems. I had a 56028547 which is for a 1995 B3500 van and replaced it with a 56028272 from a 1995 Dodge 1500. Both have a 5.2l V8 with an automatic with overdrive. It starts easy, runs smooth, cruise control and overdrive button work as they should. I would guess the emissions are the same as they both are the same year. time will tell. The big difference is that I couldn't find one without paying a huge price for a used one. Oreilly and Autozone could not get them or get mine rebuilt. Cardone was no help directly. And the 1500 ECUs are plentiful. The ECU from the pickup was 1/6th what they wanted for my original number.

I have no idea what the difference would be from the weight rating...... If there even is any difference... Glad ya got it going though.

Thanks for reporting back ! I'm always puzzled by the multitude of PCMs for the same engine in similar vehicles. Maybe there are minor optimizations for emissions and/or fuel economy but basically they all work the same.

I bought a jeep with a 318 (burnt pcm) My truck is a 96 same as the jeep with 360. The pcm for the jeep was one # off so i tried it and it worked with the exception of the can buss. The jeep used it where the truck didn't. Some of the #'s where superseded so they may work but have upgraded components/software etc.

It is showing a code 37 which is transmission temperature sensor malfunction. I don't have one on the van. It only comes with a tow package on the truck. oh well....I can live with that.

On the truck the sensor is present if the truck came with the auxiliary transmission cooler and sits in the cooler line near the transmission. I don't know if the van had a transmission cooler option and if the wiring is present but if there is a round-ish black connector with two pins near the transmission you cold try and get the sensor and mount it on the casing or the cooler line output if the case is drilled for it. Note that if the sensor does not register properly it probably makes things worse as opposed to having no sensor at all.

The code 37 shows up even after the battery has been disconnected. The check engine light does not come on though. I guess I'll treat it like the 55 code and ignore it. I'm going to get an emissions check even though I don't need one just to be sure it's correct. Van seems to run easier with less pedal.
