I do believe this has been done..... I think there is a thread around here somewhere about it....

The 96 actually had power mirrors as an option. If you already have them, most of the work is done. only need to add the stuff for the "heated" part. Switch, wiring, delay module, etc. Best bet would be to get some wiring diagrams for the heated mirrors, and your existing truck, and compare notes. You can download the service manual for your truck from here. Should be able to find wiring diagrams for your donor from here.

Heated mirrors may have been an option on the 96 trucks... not sure on that.... My 98 (early production, not the 98.5 version) has heated mirrors, and the button for those is on the HVAC control head. Unfortunately, pretty sure those are different between 97 and older, and 98 and newer. Browse thru the the wiring diagrams in the service manual, and see how the 'heated' part is controlled. I think the button for them is just a momentary switch, that suggests to some module to turn them on, the module turns them on for some period of time, then turns them off..... Or some such.

I installed power tow mirrors on my '96 Ram 2500 some time ago. That job was pretty much plug and play, as all of the wiring was there. The only thing I had to source was the power mirror control joystick that's on the driver side door, which I found in a local pick and pay yard. Not sure if heated mirrors were available in 1996, so I didn't pursue trying to install that style of mirror for now (juggling way too many other projects)..
