Default Few issues after cylinder head replacement.

Hi guys,

I am having a few issues after I did a cylinder head replacement.

my truck is smoking. I believe it’s coming from the flange where the exhaust manifold/headers meet the y pipe. I tried tightening it but That didn’t work. Also I don’t think there’s a gasket between the exhaust manifold and the y pipe to the cat is there?

also when I press the gas it feels like the pedal sunk more than it was before.

also should both pipe going to heater core be hot(inlet and outlet)?

Ok when you say smoking, is it blue or white or black smoke from tail pipe or is it smoke from maybe coolant or oil that got on exhaust when you removed head?

And yes both lines should be hot

thanks for the reply.

it is white smoke. I’ve read online people putting high temp rtv silicone on the flange to help stop the leak. I might give that a shot

The RTV will kill any O2 sensors downstream of it. Keep that in mind.

If it's not an exhaust leak it's probably oil/grease/antifreeze you got on it after the head swap. It should burn off and go away. No gasket, Just a ball flange seal like in the pic.

And i doubt that any rtv will last on exhaust where temps can go up to 1500. This is only rated at: (Temperature range -75F to 700F intermittent)
