O2 sensors are pulling fuel, but, not an unreasonable amount. Would love to see O2 cross-counts, but, it doesn't seem to care about that???

At idle, everything looks ok. Clear the codes, (reset the PCM....) go for a drive. See if anything is different.

Cleared the codes and took it for a test drive and not much changed. I have a timing chain and gears ordered and the house to myself this weekend. Looks like I know what I'll be doing! Anything special I should look out for when changing the timing chain and gears? I made sure to get a double roller set and new gaskets.

Just be careful when you pull the cover, the gasket between cover and oil pan likes to stay with the cover..... Good time to do the water pump as well, as it has to come off too. Don't forget the bypass hose between pump, and intake.

How much slop should there be in the new timing chain? The old one had about 1/2" on either side which I thought was pretty bad, but when I put the new sprockets and chain on there's almost exactly the same amount of slop.

Hmm, maybe bad out of box then. The internet says there's another set in stock not too far away so I might try a new set. Just to confirm, there's not supposed to be a tensioner, correct? Stock 5.9.

Some folks install the tensioner anyway. I think it was stock on the 3.9..... no clue why the six would need it, but the 8's wouldn't..... I didn't install one when I did the timing set on my 96.....

Well, the second new chain has about 3/8" of play on each side compared to a little over 1/2" on each side for the original one. Doesn't seem like much of a difference to me but it'll have to work because I need to get everything put back together today.
