Default Running rich?

Hello all

So let me start off with my truck is a 1995 dodge ram 1500 360 5.9 four-wheel-drive automatic

I just got done putting a whole bunch of new parts on the motor so here’s the list of all new parts

Mopar M1 Zeus with the EGR
Water pump
Comp cam double roller timing chain
all new sensors on the throttlebody map included
all new sensors on the intake manifold both water temp ones
New performance distributor Inc. cap rotor 8.5 mill wires in coil pack
NGK 02 sensor
1992 largemouth manifolds
180 temp thermostat
Mopar performance PCMOBD one
New four core radiator and trans cooler

So now for the question I noticed after taking off the manifolds there was a lot of black soot in them the truck doesn’t seem to be running rough but the fuel mileage isn’t there like I’d like the temp on the stock temp gauge reads below 160and on the aftermarket one read about 165.

I moved the stock temp gauge since I put the aftermarket one on the intake

So do you think the truck would read it’s running colder and making the truck run rich so I may need to put back the 195 thermostat I’m kind of at a loss any help would be great thanks everybody

If you have a 180 stat in there, but, your gauges only make it to 160 or so..... Think I would try a different thermostat first. Does the mopar perf. pcm want the 180 stat??

From everything I have read it said to run the 180 but I don’t have the original booklet for it even though it was new in the box it was what I read online for it

the tstat I have is the one from O’Reilly auto parts

Get a stant super-stat. They have a pretty good rep for actually working properly..... See if that doesn't change the temp...

I don't remember if the PCM will pull fuel, to speed warming up, or add.....

You have to disregard what this one is saying because it only reads what is flowing threw it(t stat opened)
If you can see what the pcm is seeing from the sensor (160) that will confirm it's the t stat.

Ok I will try
the problem is I have an OBD1 truck so is there a way to read the resistance in the wire to see what it is reading? Or a way to hook up another gauge to the primary sensor?

A decent scanner will show what the PCM thinks engine temp is.

So hears a stupid question but lol
i used Teflon tape to make sure the water temperature sensors had a good seal would that cause a bad reading if I made it too thick or is it better to just not have any at all
I was literally just looking at the motor and noticed I can see the white Teflon tape and I know other forms of said that this may be causing problems with temperature reading

Yes. It would. Most of the sensors that ground thru what they screw into, specifically state NOT to use any additional sealer on them. (they are pipe thread, and usually have a bit of stuff on 'em from the manufacturer.) That, that is only important for one-wire sensors. PCM uses a two wire, the sensor modifies an input voltage, and PCM figures out temp from that., so, sealer or not, doesn't matter. (the gauge in the dash uses the one-wire sensor.)
