Default Throttle Position Sensor

Hi I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.2 L. When I get up to highway speed the overdrive seems to be going out as it would keep switching from higher gear to lower, I'm sure it's the OD as when I hit the OD button off this problem stops. I read on here several other people experiencing the same thing, both said it needed a new throttle position sensor. I replaced the throttle position sensor and now the check engine light has come on. Do I need to do some kind of reset to get the check engine light off?

Thanks in advance.

Need to see what codes you are getting. It's possible your 'new' TPS is bad..... it happens.

And, if you’re not buying OEM sensors, it happens a lot more often…

Default Got it fixed

Plastic tabs gone because I didn't align it properly.

Old Transmission Speed Sensor

So I was getting the PO122 due to my incorrect installation of the Throttle Position Sensor, see pic. I didn't align the plastic tabs and they're toast. Luckily, this wasn't causing the overdrive shifting problem and the old Throttle Position Sensor still works fine. The other pic is the old Transmission Speed Sensor that gave me the PO720 code. After installing a new one, I gave it a test drive and the problem is fixed, no more rapid frequent changing of gears in and out of overdrive when I get up to highway speed. The CEL is off and no more codes. Thanks for the replies, lots of knowledge on this forum and I'm sure I'll be back for more advice soon!
