Default 5.2 magnum rebuild

Does anybody have any experience with Hughes Engines, and their camshafts? I'm at a complete loss with degreeing my camshaft and also trying to figure out if I need shorter or longer pushrods.

If the cam is a regrind, then you will likely need longer pushrods, as the magnum valve train is not adjustable.

Degreeing the cam as only really necessary if you want to squeeze every last inch-pound out of the motor. Set up up with a typical double roller timing set, and you will get 99% from the cam.

Thanks for your feedback HeyYou. No my cam is not a regrind. And guess I'll have to make the decision on degreeing the cam or not degreeing it. I done the pushrod length test with the new cam and stock rocker arms and stock pushrods. I set everything up like its supposed to be. And marked the top of my valve stems. to see how the rocker arms are riding on them. After turning the engine over by hand a few times. I checked the valve stem tips and they showed that the rocker arms were riding closer to the intake side. So I used my pushrod measuring tool. and measured for the right length pushrods. But after doing 3 different measurements they come up to being with in .005" of each other including my stock pushrods. so why would the measurements be that close to the stock length pushrods. but the valve tip test indicated I needed longer pushrods?

I didn't take a picture of the tips on the valve stems. Now next weekend I'll be able to get a picture of the pattern.

That'll work. So long as the rocker tip doesn't run off the edge of the valve, it's prolly good, but, I would still like to see the pattern.

My opinion I think it was a little to close to the edge. But I'm open to someone else's thoughts.

Ok thanks for the input. not what I wanted to hear. but at least I know now. I measured the pushrod length last weekend. I measured 3 different times and all the of my measurements came close to the stock pushrods. Stock pushrod length is 6.930" and all 3 of my measurements were within. 020" to .030" shorter than stock length.
