Default 4HI slips back into 2WD

We have a blizzard coming on Thursday so I figured I should probably check if 4HI works, it does not, it slips back into 2WD. 4Lo works well. Am I just not pulling it into 4HI hard enough or could this be a different problem? I havent worked on the 4WD system on these trucks yet so I'm just seeing if theres any advice. Thanks

Check the linkage for the t-case shifter. If it gets sloppy, it won't pull all the way down into 4 hi. Year of your truck matters too, as the shift pattern changed in 98.

It is a 98, the rod looks pretty rusted, but the bushings look and feel solid.

Might try disconnecting the linkage at the t-case, then putting it into 4 hi by hand, then see how well the rod lines up. I don't remember if there is an adjustment there or not.....
