Default HELP with strange Transmission problems

Alright so I have a 96 Ram 1500 with a 5.2 172,000 MI
now the transmission problem is when I shift into 1st on the column the truck jerks and then will not move. But runs fine in drive, reverse or 2nd. I found this problem while replacing the neutral safety switch and transmission speed sensor. The cruise control would not work fixed it and I'm having difficulties getting it to start reliably it makes a gear grinding noise almost and I have to shift it several times back and forth from Park to neutral to get it to crank over

Sounds like the shift linkage may be slightly out of adjustment. You can download the service manual for your year truck via the link below adjust it according to the service manual. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html

Much appreciated! I actually have the original service manual, I'll give it a pass over and see what I can find

Default Found the problem!

So after all is said and done. It was the Flexplate causing said issue sadly I'll be dropping the transmission and replacing it as well as the starter

I had a 98 GC and a 95 Cherokee that the flexplate cracked on me.

Hope your truck is 2WD and not 4WD. That would make the job easier, along with doing the job on a lift with a good transmission jack... Glad you found the broken flexplate...

Are sure it's grinding or low/starving for fluid? You should have started your own thread.
