The next question becomes where the play is coming from as OP reports. If both wheel bearings are new have they really both already failed?
If they aren't torqued to spec, they fail pretty quick. Of course, there is also a whole host of other parts in there that can be sloppy......

I've always run 'em down with the 1/2" gun, pray I'm close to an alignment of "castle-ations" and the hole (because I won't be able to get much more without jumping on a 4' cheater) and call it good

I once tried torquing to spec and after feeling like I was going to pull the whole vehicle off the lift I decided on gutentight with an air gun + ignorance-is-bliss. Sad perhaps, but true!

For those, I grab a 3/4" drive torque wrench (it's pretty long), put a screwdriver in one of the rotor vents to lock up the axle while using the torque wrench and torque the nut to spec. I hate comebacks and want to give the bearing its best chance at a long life.

A 3/4 or 1 inch ratchet or breaker bar, Leave the wheel on then tighten or break it loose that way.
