1998 Ram help.
Thanks for the help in advance. I'm putting in a 408 scat stroker in my 98 ram. Carbed. Have a Summit performance distributor with an orange box that has two wires that go to start and run. For the life of the I can't figure out with wire goes where at the ignition. Any help is really appreciated.
Download the service manual for your truck from here. Wiring diagrams are in section 8W.
You are going to have issues eliminating the computer. Especially if you have an automatic trans. All the gauges, including the gas gauge.... are driven by the data bus. No computer, no data bus, no gauges/idiot lights on the dash.
Moving this to second gen ram section for ya. Welcome to DF!

The 'original harness' for all the gauges was the Data buss the PCM used to talk to all the other modules in the truck..... NOTHING actually feeds info to the cluster, other than the PCM.
So I figured out the issue. 1. Since it was a manual swap and original had a automatic transmission in it, I had to wire it as if the park/neutral safety switch was made. Then the distributor /electronic ignition system I have has to be wires as per the instructions but the start run wires have to be tied together and ran to the #2 wire (blue) up under the steering column right before the ignition. Now fuel pump works(has a regulator), all the gages (i.e.fuel gage, oil pressure, water temp, volt gage)
only thing that isn't working is the alternator isint charging. I think ill have to just get a external regulator for it due to its controlled by the ECM. Thanks for all the help.
