Default Steering linkage

Has anybody with a 98 2500 4x4 with the factory hd T steering. Installed the synergy bolt on setup.? Did you have to change out your drop pitman arm?

Should be a direct bolt-on.

I was asking because, it says it’s a direct bolt on, but mentions. The 98-99 with the t style steering (where the tie rod connects to both knuckles) must use the pitman arm from 1994-1997. That’s what confused me1998-1999 trucks that originally came with T-Style Steering (Where the tie rod connects to both knuckles) must use the pitman arm from 1994-1997 trucks, stamped TRW-246

Ok, that seems odd..... I wasn't aware the pitman arm changed..... Check part numbers for the years in question on the pitman arms. If they are indeed different, then, the note is probably correct.

One thing I DON'T like about the HD steering, is the design. On my 98 2500, I have a dead spot in my steering because the drag link causes the tie rod to roll before it actually starts moving the tires.... There are a couple 'fixes' out there in the world for that.... but, I haven't really done much with it yet. (nothing like a bit of procrastination, eh? I've had the truck for six years now..... )

I have the dead spot in the steering as well that’s why I’m wanting to upgrade to this kit, it was my moms truck growing up and my sister and brother in law had it for the last 14 years i just picked it up from them and am trying to get it all fixed up.

Unfortunately, the problem is in the design of the linkage, and new parts may or may not help. They make True cross-over steering kits for these trucks, but, then, the drag link is longer than the track bar, and you get bump steer.... Some folks have put washers (steel, couple rubber, another steel) in place of the boots, and that seems to work. Some companies make different design boots, from various materials, that all address the problem. (the idea is for the boots/washer to prevent the tie rod from rolling.) No idea what the best solution is.

Steering boxes on these truck were notorious for ridiculous amounts of slop as well....

That synergy kit is the fix. Notice the steel (aluminum?) pucks on the tops of the ball joints at either end of the tie rods. That prevents the roll over.

Or you can save money and get parts like this from rockauto. Notice the puck instead of boot. I ran a Moog first that didn't have the pucks and it rolled bad. Tried to make my own but it didn't really help. So I finally swapped it for the ac delco version.
