Default Rear seat modification

I have a 1995 dodge ram 1500 with extended cab and i am looking to make more room under the rear seat for a subwoofer. I only need to make about 2 inches at the most in height. I have looked all over and it seems no one has done this mod. i am looking for any help. Right know i have reached out to many people in the audio world and no one makes a kit to lift the seat higher. They make custom boxes but i am not looking to spend that much money. The newer models of course are easier but not mine. Thanks for any help. I believe i can put spacers under where the seat is attached to the sides, but the problem i think will be the seat release latch needs to be in its place to keep the seat up. unless I can extend the latch for the seat to stay up, I am screwed unless I make it longer. Much extra work.

JL Audio(witch i have) and somebody else makes a sub to go under it with no mods. You are going to need to make spacers to raise the seat otherwise.

Latch goes with the seat, so there is no extra work on that. Just build a spacer under the seat, then there's a loop on a rear wall made from round stock, under the rear window on both sides where the back rest rides. They are welded on, but can be made bolt-on version too.

I have looked at some JL audio products and also some alpine products that should fit but the seat is very narrow at the back it goes all the way down to about maybe 4 inches at the most. I have gone to 2 audio places i deal with and they can't find anything that will fit without any modification. I really don't want to build a box. The smallest box is about 5 1/4 inches tall and about 11 inches.in length and this still will not tuck under the seat without sticking out. If you have the model number of the one under your seat that might help. Maybe they don't make it anymore. Also i will post the pick that shows the latch hooks into the same area where there the seat does ,so if i put a spacer on this area it pushes the seat higher of course but also pushes the spot where the latches goes into to far away. The seat will not lock in place when it is down or when it is up being it is far away. I keep seeing they changed the way the seat attaches in newer years .Just don't know when they made the change. But you can see by the pictures which are the best i could get how the latch for the seat is screwing with me if i put the lift on if only just 1 1/2 inches it pushes the latch from catching in the area where it attaches. If the latch was not there i would be done with this already. but believe me so far nobody has answer except put the box under the drivers seat or lift the fron seats and put it under the middle console. GRR the latches on the back are not a problem they still will grab the back of the seat even if i lift it only about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. I just don't want the seat not to lock in place. If you have other ideas after looking at the pictures let me know. The only other thing i could think of is to unhook the seat from the latch and put spacer under the seat and between the bracket but not sure now this would work and if i can do this if this is what uou mean by putting spacers under the seat. I never looked at untill i looked at the last picture that would keep ever everything in it original location if the seat has enough room for me to manipulate it. HMM

HeikIlm is offline I guess i have to look at what your saying and go back to the truck over the weekend and revisit what you are saying. I have been approaching it by putting the spacers under the bracket all this thime which of course screwed with e latch. I have to look if i can do it another way i believe you are saying. Can you provide a picture to make it easier for me to approach it when i do it. Just have worked on this thing for 28 years and want something done easy for a change. thanks ***ain for your input

Captain

thanks

They don't make the one i have anymore but you may find them on ebay( i tried to find a pic but it's like they never existed). They fit well and you really don't notice them (hence the name "stealth box") like some of the other boxes. Do a google search there are a number of different boxes available now.

The whole latch mechanism is built into the seat hinge, so you can basically bolt it to a 2x4 and it would work.

These are the loops where the back rest rides. What ever amount the seat is lifted, these have to go up accordingly.

I was going to lift the seat up to fit enclosure for the 10" sub I have, but like the whole truck currently, it's been in a back burner for a while.
