The parts store pumps are REALLY hit and miss.... I went thru THREE before I got one that would actually put out some pressure, and that one howled like a banshee...... Good ones? That is a VERY good question....

I have never really had much success with that. Getting that o-ring to seal around the pump has always defeated me.

And I didn’t know if I rebuild would help.not really leaking howls a little bit. Might even be better then buying new junk.

I thought re builds are mostly seals. Think the pump seen better days

I have rarely seen a filter on power steering... only on really high-end luxury cars... (mercedes, bmw, et al.) Considering most p/s system go decades with barely any maintenance, and continue to work perfectly fine, I think it's just an added expense/complication that isn't really necessary.

If you could find one new, or remanned by Delco, that would likely be a good gamble.

I'm on my third or fourth pump (can't remember). It's a new one from rockauto (can't remember brand) but it's the aluminum/silver body one. It whines pretty bad. I've flushed it and bled it about 2 dozen times over 3 years. Whatever. I hate replacing them.

If yours doesn't make noise and operates fine now, I wouldn't bother with it. Replace everything else and see how that works first. Otherwise you'll be chasing your tail figuring out a problem that could be several sources. All of my pumps worked and operated exactly the same. Even the new one did nothing better.
