Quite some time ago my (what i assume) is stock (2001 2500) radio lost its FM tuning ability it seems, at least it won't find anything on scan. If you manually tune something it doesn't do anything at those stations either. If you save them, from a manual tune, then hit the saves it does 'play' that station, but pretty badly. Lots of static. I assume the tuner is basically dead, but i dunno much about radios. After that i pulled the radio from another 2001 2500 i had lying around (as you do) and went on my way. It had been under water at least once pretty good and the display would only work if i pushed against it. Now recently the volume **** died and i pulled it out to fix it. So lots of googling started and it got me more and more confused as i went along. My 'stock' radio doesn't seem to exist, or i'm just really bad at searching. Its face looks like this:
Stock radio
I know there are similar looking cassette only radios as my stock one, but i haven't seen one of these no matter what i typed in looking for it (including its part number P82301040). Then there are lots of the donor trucks radio, with and without cassette and with or without extra balance *****. Just weird.
Compared to my donor truck radio face (minus *****) here:
Donor truck radio
Some quick looking at the few chips on the main board say the radio was made after 50th week of 1995 at least, depending on how long parts sat on shelves. So this may in fact not be the original stock radio for my truck, but still rather odd to not find a picture of this anywhere.
Now, i've gotten a little bit attached to this curiosity and almost would rather fix the 'original' radio than fix the donor one (even though i do have parts coming in for it). Anyone know how to fix the tuner? Heh. More specifically, if the old cassette radios that look like mine have the same tuner module (i assume that is what is broken...) which i think is a 16 pin can with Temic on it (4652720-2 1890 DFC 3x5 562). Or better yet, anyone know what else could be causing its issues or how to narrow down some possible causes (other radio works fine with the same cables, so i assume its independent of the truck)?
The donor radio looks like maybe it came in a premium sound package trucks? (infinity) but I'm not for sure, I had a 96 with inifintey and it had cd/tape combo radio
Beyond that you sound like you have a way better understanding of these radios then I do. I just stuff in aftermarket with bluetooth lol
You might try searching eBay, car-part.com & Facebook Marketplace for it. Sounds like you have a AM/FM/CD radio that may have only been made for a year or two. If water got into it or it's been sitting in a moisture-rich environment, you will need to disassemble it and try spraying the switches and contact points with a good contact/de-oxidizing cleaner, such as Caig-deoxit.
Similar thread here. i would upgrade to something that doesn't use ancient technology. Can't remember the last time i used a cassette. Upgrade you won't be sorry!
It's an AM/FM/CD player, no cassette option, however, I still agree that it's likely time for an upgrade, unless you aren't a smart phone user. Digital radios that sync with your smart phone via Android Auto or Apple Car Play are all the rage these days and are a cost-conscious upgrade, even for thrifty folks like myself..

I actually have one of these out in the garage. No idea if it works or not.
From the late 1980's to 2001, all the radios will interchange. The early 1980's will usually work too but aren't as nice. The plugs were all the same.
I'd just get a aftermarket, installation kit and adapter harness. Wire the adapter to the radio and it will fit right in there. You can get them with CD's, DVD players, USB thumb drives with a HUGE memory capacity and so on. The DVD player will even slide out and back. I've gotten to where I don't even bother to use factory unless I'm restoring a car.

Not sure if mine has that but it has a usb port for a memory stick filled with tunes. There is no music on my phone, don't see the need for it. Not to mention the modern ones will give you artist/song info on the display that you can search for if you want to hear a specific song.
