Default Retrofit Overhead Console Computer

I have a 98 Ram but the older style overhead console. The tabs on mine broke so I was looking for a replacement. Ended up finding one like this but it has a computer instead of a cubby. Is it easy to retrofit and install the one with the computer?

Yeah, that looks exactly like the one in my 98..... don't know if the wires for it will already be there or not though.

If your truck didn't come with one from the factory then no you don't have the harness. It also needs the temp sensor on the core support if you want the temp read out to work. Isn't there a thread here somewhere how to add these?

Yeah I just opted for a regular one. Probably not worth the hassle in this old truck

I added a compass/temp console out of a wrecked '96 to my '95. If I recall the only change was adding the small A-pillar harness. The connector was already there just below the dash. Temp sensor, RockAuto, 12.95 or so. Very, very easy. Don't listen to parrots.

Do you have any photos of the compass/temp console you installed that you can share?

The wiring diagram is simple IFthe wiring is there. There is power from ignition, ground, two wires that go to the temp sensor and the wiring for the lights. Look at the plug diagrams in the back of the service manual to ID them.

No, but mine looks just like yours. Good luck.
...and because my '95 had the harness stubbed up to the bottom of the A-pillar, I'd guess all trucks were built this way. Adding the short A-pillar harness to the console would have only been done to complete the option installation on the assembly line.

Here's a photo of the current console in my truck that has the cubby. In looking at some others on eBay that have the compass/temp readout, I'd have to pickup a used console with the compass/temp readout, the short harness and the temperature sensor that would be attached up front to the radiator core area.
