Change the electronics first. Governor pressure sensor/and solenoid, and output speed sensor. (change fluid and filter, and adjust the bands as well.) That tends to solve a lot of ills.

Thank you, I will try that. Of course after I wrote my post, the truck drove today just fine without that issue. It does like to hold on to 1st and 2nd gears sometimes before upshifting, but I will have the electronics checked if it worsens.

Mine does that too. (truck in my sig.) Even AFTER I changed the electronics..... I think there is some faulty logic in the programming.
I would! In my state, it's way cheaper to register and no inspections are required. That's a win-win!
It IS cheaper, but, you are also limited to 5000 miles on the road per year. Which for me, would be doable.... as currently, I think I do around 4K or so...... but, as soon as I did that, I would like find reasons to drive more.

I see, that's not a bad limit...where I am, there's no mileage limit, only that the vehicle can't be used primarily to transport people. But since it's vague, I do see a number of antique plates on older cars/trucks and not just at events.

There is a very low mileage limit in this state as well, in addition to not allowing one to purchase antique plates unless you have another registered vehicle that is a 'daily driver'. Even with these minimal restrictions, there are numerous folks running around daily with antique plates.
