Default Zf transmission fluid

Any input on compatibility of ZF transmission fluid in a 1999 Dodge ram 1500? I think it's the 46re tranny.. thanks for responding...

What is "ZF fluid?" In the Fords the ZF5 was supposed to get Merc then MercV

I'd only use +4 in a 46RE. Dodge may have reco'd +4 if they put the ZF in any applications from the factory because manual gear boxes are far less picky about the exact formulation of ATF. The manuals that take ATF generally just need a lighter oil and that's basically any ATF

It's a German company that makes transmisions and a fluid called ZF Lifeguard. The shop I took my truck to for a change said it is a better fluid and it is compatible with Dodge trannies... some newer dodges have ZF trannies in them ..I never heard of it either...so I was asking you guys about it... thanks for your response.

OH a German company you say? That makes transmissions? Ok, thanks for clearing that up even I clearly stated I was aware of ZF5's in Fords. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do swimmingly!! You have a local shop so you're good-- just listen to them.

Some people just gotta get smart and not offer any real help... I ask honest, sincere questions when I don't know things and expect dignified real help... I thought that's what these forums are for...
