I used atf instead. should i change it out or, leave it?
I read on here that atf was ok to use!
Some people swear you gotta use p/s fluid. Some say it's gotta be ATF+4 because that's what Chrysler said.

I'm the guy who says basic Dex/Merc is perfect.

I have yet to have anyone explain how the Saginaw pump (which was used in thousands of other applications including Ford and GM) and a simple recirculating ball steering box is any different than any other. Answer: it's not. It's a very simple, crude system that just needs a light hydraulic oil. The additives in +4 do nothing here and p/s fluid is just a waste of money.

Where did they say that? It says use power steering fluid! Look it up for yourself if you don't believe me. This subject was brought up before. You would put atf in the ps but would you put psf in a transmission? There are differences and each is designed for it's purpose.

Alright it's been about a month since I changed the gear box and pump out. Fluid level was a little high after bleeding system. Sucked it down to the line at cold level. Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed it's starting to whine when turning at slow speeds. When checking the fluid level " hot" it still about 1/4'' from the hot line mark. I know it was a remanufactured pump and with my luck it's probably going bad already. Should I add a little more fluid? I mean it'll just blow out of the cap if too much right? Any opinion/ advise is always greatly appreciated.

You can add a bit of fluid, but, likely won't matter....

I went thru four pumps before I got one I could live with, and it was still loud..... but, at least it worked.....

Yeah that little fluid shouldn't make a difference either way. Go ahead and try it but don't expect any change

Yeah I'll add a little. After what HeyYou told me I'm guessing the remanufactured pumps ain't all that. How about the Lucas treatment? what's your take on that product? Again thanks for your input.

Not a fan of additives. They are generally just 'bandaids' to mask a larger problem.
