Default New Steering Gear and Power Steering Pump

I seen a ton of info on bleeding the system, but not much on installing a complete system. So can i fill the steering gear through the return line prior to hooking hoses up to the pump? Just to get some fluid in the gear box. I mean the more i get in the less air I have to deal with, right? No? So what are yall's opinion or process to to acomplish this. I'm getting to old to deal with a 22 year old beach/mountain truck. Meaning the fasteners are exceptionally fun to deal with. Greatful in advance for any suggestions or tips!

I've had no issues just replacing the power steering gearbox and power steering pump, filling the pump reservoir with fluid and turning the steering from lock to lock a few times with the engine running to bleed/fill the system to get it functioning properly.

I use the same method as the dog above, but, I have the front end up off the ground when I do it.

Thanks ya'll. I can always count on your knowledge and expertise! I got it jacked up, rechecked the lines and have the POWER STEERING fluid ready. Let you know how it turns out.

Fill the reservoir, then turn the steering lock to lock a couple times, Engine OFF. Recheck fluid level, top it off, then start the engine, and cycle the steering a few times.

Thanks to you all. Got it bled down and did a test drive. I was surprised that it only took just less than a quart and a half of power steering fluid. Now at cold reading, it's just above the line by about 1/4''. Should I suck that down to the line or give it a few more days and recheck. Thanks again!!!

Meh, that much across the surface area of the Sag reservoir ain't much. Probably half a turkey baster.

If it's significantly overfilled it'll just puke it out the cap..

It's up to you -- leave it or pull it down -- probably doesn't matter
