Need some help, if someone has been in this predicament before. Some pics as to the progress and those pesky PLASTIC dash screw holders just under the windscreen. I'm thinkin' of using stainless steel hinged dry wall screw retainers in the place of the broken plastic one as seen in my hand. Thoughts as to maybe a better substitute???
Notice the heater core. Brass, copper n steel. I'm sending the aluminum replacement back! The plastic retainers are all busted. I'm thinkin of using drywall anchors The bolt holes are the ones at the dash top back near thew windscreen
As a wise man once told me, buy once, cry once How often do you perform that resto job?
At least they're available - with that part number, you can shop around online for them... Who knows - it's Black Friday, maybe someone has a better price on them.. Or, on Cyber Monday...
I hear ya brother. Another wise man once quipped...necessity is the mother of invention! Well, that n you folks n your extensive decades of experience. Anyhow, I thought EXACTLY THAT meself. However, in my eternal quest for cheapness, I found some hinged, metal drywall anchors that work better than the original plastic ones do. No welding, no turning to potato chips over time, just wrap some electrical tape around the winged anchor tips so it doesn't cause rust on the metal frame of the dash. If I need to pull the dash ever again, I just screw the anchor all the way off. Then I fish out the metal anchor with my telescoping magnet, a pair of needle nose pliers n voila! Already tried it...IT WERX!!!
Got a photo of what you used that you can share in this thread to help other "frugal" folks like myself and likely others?? I have to do that job in the not-too-distant future...
That's a 3/16x3" compressed for install Slides snugly into the 4 rectangular slots ('ceptin' the middle one o' course) There she is in all her glory! I heard rumors that they like to travel in packs, so I went n snagged me one!
WHOOP, WHOOP, WHOOP...WAVE OFF, WAVE OFF...IMMINENT FAILURE AHEAD!!
Whelp, the dash ***'y got in the way of proper penetration of the wing nuts...ahh well!
