Default Power steering question?

I have an '01 Ram 1500 5.2l.
This morning my trucks belt tensioner failed and shredded the belt.
I want to drive it to a shop about 1/2 mile from my house with no power steering, will this damage the box or pump? will it be too hard to turn?
The pump is still full of fluid. Should I have it towed?
Cant do the work myself because of back issues. Thanks for any help.

If you have back issues, you don't want to drive it, as your arms and back will be needed to steer the stiff beast.

The repair is pretty simple. Just swap out the tensioner and the belt. Do you have mobile repair folks in your general that can come to you to fix that issue? Mobile auto repair has grown quite a bit in this area, so you may want to check to see what's available in your area.

Driving it like that is a lot like wrestling with a bear. Only, the bear is more cooperative...... Also keep in mind, you won't have a water pump, or alternator either.......

I'd be more worried about the lack of water pump, but if it's a half mile with no stops I think you'll be ok. If this is a half mile in the city, well that depends on traffic....

Check craigs list, thumbtack and sites like them. You should be able to find someone that can do it.
